DPWH Ilocos reactivates ‘Lakbay Alalay’ in time for holidays

SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union (PIA) — The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) in the Ilocos Region has positioned teams in strategic highways to assist motorists in the coming Christmas and New Year Break.

The “Lakbay Alalay” program deploys DPWH personnel equipped with maintenance equipment during two distinct periods.

The first period for the Christmas celebration commences on December 24, 2024, at 8:00 AM and concludes on December 26, 2024, at 5:00 PM.

For a facilitated welcoming of the new year, the placement will resume on December 31, 2024, at 8:00 AM and will conclude on January 2, 2025, at 5:00 PM.

“Our team is on a 24/7 rotation, ready to assist with any situation, from flat tires and breakdowns to simply providing directions,” Esperanza Tinaza, DPWH Ilocos regional information officer, said.

A total of 33 motorist assistance stations are set up across the region, with eight in Ilocos Norte, six in Ilocos Sur, 10 in La Union, and nine in Pangasinan.

Three “Lakbay Alalay” are deployed by the DPWH Ilocos Norte First District Engineering Office (DEO) in the following areas:

  •       Barangay 43, Cavit, Laoag City;
  •       Barangay Bayog, Burgos town; and
  •       Barangays Tarrag and Pancian in Pagudpud town.

The team of DPWH Ilocos Norte Second DEO is ready to provide assistance at:

  •       Barangays San Pablo, San Nicolas, and Sta. Cruz in Badoc town; and
  •       Barangay Bungcag, in Dingras town along Ilocos Norte Apayao Road.

The DPWH Ilocos Sur First DEO team can be approached at:

  •       Barangay Napo, Magsingal town;
  •       DPWH Compound Ilocos Sur First DEO, and along Manila North Road (MNR), Barangay Boquig, in Bantay town.

The team of the DPWH Ilocos Sur Second DEO is ready to help travelers at their designated posts at:

  •       MNR, Tagudin Section along Tagudin-Cervantes Road in Tagudin Town;
  •       Barangay Calaoa-an, Candon City; and
  •       Barangay Quinarayan, Narvacan town.

Meanwhile, the DPWH La Union First DEO team is positioned at:

  •       MNR, along Camilo Osias, Balaoan town;
  •       Barangay Cacapian along San Juan-San Gabriel Road and MNR, Ili Sur in San Juan; and
  •       DPWH Compound at Barangay Lingsat First DEO and Barangay Pagdalagan Norte in San Fernando City.

Meanwhile, the team of DPWH La Union Second DEO is assigned at the MNR, along:

  •       Barangay Central East, Bauang town;
  •       MNR, Sta Rita West, Aringay town;
  •       MNR, Barangay San Agustin Sur in Agoo town;
  •       MNR, Poblacion East in Pugo town; and
  •       MNR, Barangay Subusub, Rosario town.

The DPWH Pangasinan First DEO team assists the motorists along Pangasinan-Zambales Road.

While the team in DPWH Pangasinan Second DEO also assists the motorists at:

  •       Barangay Guibel, San Jacinto Section along Managaldan-Manaoag Binalonan Road in San Jacinto town; and
  •       Barangay Manat, along Pangasinan-Zambales Road in Binmaley town.

Likewise, the DPWH Pangasinan Third DEO team is positioned along:

  •       MNR, Barangay Palac-Palac, Pozorrubio town;
  •       Barangay Linmansangan along Mangaldan-Manaoag-Binalonan Road in Binalonan town;
  •       MNR, Barangay Anonas (Entrance/Exit of TPLEX) in Urdaneta City; and
  •       MNR, Barangay East, Carmen Section (in front of Quarantine Area Checkpoint), in Rosales, Pangasinan

While the team of DPWH Pangasinan Fourth DEO is deployed at:

  •       Barangays Maningding and Tuliao in Sta. Barbara; and
  •       Calasiao Junction, Barangay San Miguel, along Urdaneta Junction-Dagupan Road in Calasiao town.

The DPWH renews this effort for every significant occasion when a significant influx of locals returning home and tourists is anticipated, such as every Holy Week and Undas. (AMB/REB/PIA Region 1)
