CALAPAN CITY, Oriental Mindoro (PIA) — The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Mimaropa through the Mindoro Oriental District Engineering Office (DEO) has completed the construction of the Calapan City River Control in Oriental Mindoro.
The project has a length of 215.60 linear meter concrete structure with steel sheet piles, which costs P200M funded under the 2022 congressional budget of former 1st District Representative Paulino Salvador Leachon on his third term when the former representative was the Senior Deputy Speaker.
The implementing agency which is the DPWH finished the project being the institutional implementing agency of the House of Representatives for district infrastructure projects.
The purpose of the project is to protect the lives and property of Calapeno citizens against widespread flooding during heavy rains brought by typhoons.
It is expected that this project will improve the hydraulic capacity and increase the water conveyance capacity of the rivers in the city.
Aside from the safety features of the projected, it is expected that it will bring additional tourism attraction in the city as part of the vision of the former representative in materializing the “Calapan Baywalk Project.” (JJGS/PIA MIMAROPA)
