DPWH Intensifies Road Maintenance Ahead of Holy Week Travel Surge

In preparation for the anticipated influx of travelers this Holy Week, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has ramped up its routine road maintenance activities, following President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s directive to prioritize road safety and commuter convenience.

DPWH Secretary Manuel M. Bonoan has reactivated the agency’s motorists assistance initiative, Lakbay Alalay, mobilizing all Regional and District Engineering Offices nationwide to ensure the accessibility and safety of national roads.

Part of the directive includes the establishment of temporary roadside assistance stations, particularly along major highways and primary transport corridors.

Ongoing maintenance activities include the repair of road defects such as potholes and cracks, repainting of faded road markings, clearing of overgrown vegetation, and restoration of damaged or missing road signs.

Secretary Bonoan also instructed the strategic scheduling of ongoing road projects, reiterating the implementation of necessary traffic management and strict adherence to construction safety requirements.

The DPWH “Lakbay Alalay” Teams, which will be composed of uniformed field and crew personnel with equipment, will be stationed along vital national road locations starting 8:00 am Wednesday, April 16, 2025 until 5:00 pm Saturday, April 19, 2025.

“Commuters may seek help from our “Lakbay Alalay” station teams in blue-colored tents, who will be ready to provide roadside assistance on a round-the-clock shift, in coordination with other government agencies and local government units,” said Secretary Bonoan.

Meanwhile, the public is urged to follow the DPWH social media pages for the specific locations of DPWH “Lakbay Alalay” stations and latest travel advisories.
