DPWH NCR completes infra projects for Malabon fisherfolk

QUEZON CITY, (PIA) — To protect fisherfolk of Malabon City, the Department of Public Works and Highways National Capital Region (DPWH NCR) recently completed several flood control projects to protect a riverside neighborhood inhabited by a fishing community in Barangay Muzon.

According to the DPWH, seven (7) phases of the Muzon River Wall Project were implemented, with a combined allocation of P330.50 million in 2024.

With the new structures on both sides of Muzon River, we are able to safeguard the homes and livelihood of residents, primarily fisherfolks,” DPWH NCR Director Loreta M. Malaluan said.

Implemented to prevent riverbank erosion and protect adjacent and nearby structures, the projects involved installing steel sheet piles driven into the ground to form a wall, H-piles or H-shaped steel beams for deep foundations, and thick concrete slabs to connect multiple piles.

Malaluan added that the completed projects are extension of the completed segments from 2022 and 2023 worth P136.07 million. (JEG/PIA-NCR)
