Road users traveling along the national highway in Barangay Burabod, Laoang, Northern Samar, will now benefit from a significantly improved, wider, and well-lit road, thanks to the Department of Public Works and Highways-Northern Samar Second District Engineering Office (DPWH-NSSDEO).
The off-carriageway improvement along this section of the road has been completed 100 percent, enhancing vehicle capacity and providing safer zones for pedestrians.
District Engineer Charlito S. Carlobos announced that the project involved concreting 3,227.20 meters of roadway and widening 49 meters on both sides. Additionally, 56 solar LED street lights have been installed to improve visibility and safety along the route.
Carlobos noted that the improvement of the K0782+(-035.80) – K0783+573.80 section of the Catarman to Laoang Road was budgeted at PHP 30 million, funded under the General Appropriations Act (GAA) of 2024. Construction began on February 5, 2024, with an original completion target of August 2, 2024, but the project was finished ahead of schedule by July 20, 2024.
The expanded carriageway now features solar LED street lights to ensure adequate lighting and reduce the risk of accidents.
Carlobos explained that this enhancement will help local traders transport goods and farm products to nearby public markets at any time of the day.
He added that this road section is a crucial arterial route in Northern Samar’s second district, linking the municipalities of Pambujan and Laoang, and serving as a key route for travelers from Catarman to the Pacific towns of Palapag, Mapanas, Gamay, and Lapinig.
With the new road improvements, there is an expectation to attract more tourists to the area’s scenic spots, boosting tourism and spurring economic growth. (Ronel Galupo/DPWH-NSSDEO)
