LEGAZPI CITY, Albay (PIA) — The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is set to establish 24 motorist assistance centers across the region to ensure safe and smooth travel for motorists during the holiday season.
Under the program “Lakbay-Alalay,” these centers will operate from December 24 to December 26 and from December 31 to January 2, between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.
DPWH Regional Director Virgilio Eduarte has instructed all district engineering offices to deploy composite teams, including representatives from regional and district engineering offices, to provide support at strategic locations within their jurisdictions.
The DPWH has coordinated with key agencies such as the Land Transportation Office (LTO), the Philippine National Police (PNP), and local government units to offer comprehensive assistance.
In Camarines Sur, the DPWH has set up five centers at strategic locations, as Eduarte highlighted the need for traffic assistance due to congestion along Rolando Andaya Highway.
To facilitate uninterrupted transport flow and ensure safer travel, Eduarte has directed District Engineering Offices to work with contractors handling ongoing projects along national roads to provide timely traffic advisories.
As of Monday, three sections of the Andaya Highway have been reopened to two-way traffic, with work on the remaining section still in progress.
In Camarines Norte, the Asian Highway 26 (also known as Maharlika Highway) segment at Sitio Dagook in Barangay Tigbinan and Sitio Kabungahan in Barangay Kabatuhan, Labo, remains passable for all types of vehicles, except for articulated trucks.
Motorists are advised to exercise caution while traveling these road sections, adhere to traffic management protocols, and stay informed about road conditions by checking the official advisories from DPWH regional office. (PIA5/KAB)
