DPWH opens P2.26-B Iloilo Sunset Boulevard

ILOILO CITY (PIA) —The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) here has recently opened the five-kilometer Iloilo River North Bank Road, widely known as the Iloilo Sunset Boulevard, to ease traffic in the city as well as offer picturesque vistas of the city.

DPWH-6 assistant regional director Al Fruto said that the P2.26-billion infrastructure would address long-standing transportation challenges while enhancing regional connectivity.

The project includes the construction of viewing decks that offer stunning panoramic views of the river, magnificent sunsets, and captivating sight of migratory birds, while the river provides an excellent spot for fishing.

Fruto said the a five-kilometer, four-lane concrete pavement, which starts at Molo-Mandurriao Road (R. Mapa St.), traversing the Iloilo Business Park, and ends at Oton-Pakiad-Mandurriao Road in Cagbang, Oton, provides a direct route to Tigbauan, Iloilo.

“Beyond transportation, the boulevard is set to boost tourism and recreation with its esplanade, scenic viewing decks, and landscaped spaces,” Fruto added, noting that the boulevard features bike lanes and four bi-level concrete viewing decks.

Former Sen. Franklin Drilon, Iloilo City Rep. Julienne Baronda, Raisa Treñas-Chu, representing Mayor Jerry P. Treñas, Vice Mayor Jeffrey Ganzon, led the ribbon cutting ceremony, marking a significant step in urban development through balancing infrastructure needs with environmental sustainability and community well-being.
