BALANGA CITY (PIA) — Motorists using the Mindanao Avenue in Mariveles, Bataan are now benefiting from a newly completed road improvement project that enhances safety and ride quality on this key thoroughfare.
The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) implemented the P19.3-million project by applying a 50-millimeter-thick asphalt overlay on a 405-meter road stretch from the K0162 + (-875) to K0162 + (-710) sections.
DPWH Bataan 3rd District Engineer Maribel Navarro said this high-traffic road in the province required improvements to enhance durability and prevent early deterioration of the concrete pavement.
“Based on a 2023 report, Mindanao Avenue has an average daily traffic of around 5,000 vehicles and serves as a key route to the Mariveles town proper and the Freeport Area of Bataan,” she said.
She added that the road improvement is part of the agency’s asset preservation and preventive maintenance program.
It aims to support economic development by improving ride quality, safety, and reliability on the avenue, a key pathway for commercial transactions, logistics, and workers from industrial zones and techno parks in the municipality.
Likewise, she said that the initiative also includes reflectorized thermoplastic pavement markings, which improve safety and visibility at night and during adverse weather, helping to reduce the risk of accidents in the area. (CLJD/RPQ, PIA Region 3-Bataan)
