MAASIN CITY (PIA) — The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) – First District Engineering Office in Southern Leyte is implementing a 10-kilometer asphalt overlay road improvement project.
The asphalt-based infrastructure project is located along the national road between barangays Panan-awan and Tawid in Maasin City. It covers a four-lane stretch of the highway and costs P96.5 million.
The project involved installing asphalt, solar LED streetlights, and road markings. These elements provide essential information to motorists and pedestrians, particularly at night when visibility is diminished.
This major asphalt overlay project is seen to ensure the longevity and safety of our road infrastructure. The major concern of our department is the safety of the travelers, so we are working double-time for a faster implementation of these asphalt projects,” said District Engr. Manolo Rojas, head of the province’s First Engineering District.
According to the DPWH, this initiative is part of their ongoing efforts to maintain and upgrade national roads, addressing wear and tear caused by traffic and weather conditions.
Moreover, asphalt overlay improves existing pavement by adding a new layer of asphalt, restoring smoothness, durability, and structural integrity. (AAC/MMP, PIA Southern Leyte)
