CARMEN, Surigao del Sur — The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) recently turned over a newly constructed four-classroom school building to Esperanza Integrated School in Carmen, Surigao del Sur.
The new school building stood out not just for its functionality but also for resiliency. Built to withstand natural calamities, the structure incorporated disaster-resilient features, including reinforced concrete materials, a sturdy roofing system, and proper ventilation to ensure both safety and comfort. The use of quality, weather-resistant materials enhanced its durability, making it a long-term investment in the community’s education sector.
Constructed under the Department of Education’s Basic Educational Facilities Fund (BEFF) Batch 1, with a budget of P7,860,844.11, the project directly addressed the persistent classroom shortage that has long impacted both students and teachers. With the completion of this facility, students now have a comfortable, accessible, and modern learning space, fostering better concentration, collaboration, and engagement in their studies.
Advancing PBBM’s education agenda
DPWH District Engineer Bantugan has emphasized that the project reflected the agency’s commitment to delivering quality educational infrastructure aligned with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. ‘s priority programs for education and national development. He reiterated that investments in resilient school buildings are crucial in ensuring that Filipino students have access to safe and conducive learning environments where they can thrive and maximize their potential.
With this latest infrastructure milestone, DPWH reaffirmed its role in nation-building, contributing to the Marcos Jr. administration’s vision of accessible, inclusive, and disaster-resilient education for every Filipino student.
The turnover event was attended by 2nd District Congressional Rep. Romeo Momo Sr., chairperson of the House Committee on Public Works and Highways, along with officials from the Department of Education (DepEd) and the local government unit of Carmen.
