DPWH vows to help stamp out VAWC

CALAPAN CITY, Oriental Mindoro (PIA) — The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has committed to help address cases of violence against women (VAW).

As part of the observance of the 18-day campaign to end  VAW this year, DPWH Southern Mindoro District Engineering Office (SMDO) head Annielyn E. Padullo has expressed her support for the anti-VAW campaign and encouraged everyone to strengthen a culture where people foster a safer and more equitable environment for all.

“We reaffirm our commitment to fostering a society where safety, dignity, and equality prevail for all, particularly in addressing the persistent issue of Violence Against Women,” Padullo said.

Padullo said VAW law serves as a crucial instrument in protecting women from abuse, ensuring justice, and promoting respect for their fundamental rights.

Engr. Glen M. Aceron, the GAD focal point person of DPWH, facilitated the advocacy kick-off coinciding with the district’s flag-raising ceremony during the campaign’s opening.

Aceron highlighted the objectives of this campaign by raising public awareness and encouraging everyone to support the vision of a community free from violence against women and children.

Cherry Mae L. Ng, Master Teacher II of President Diosdado Macapagal Memorial National High School from the town of Gloria, who was invited during the culminating activity, highlighted the salient features of various laws protecting women such as the anti-VAWC law, Magna Carta of Women, and Safe Spaces Act.

She also underscored the DPWH’s role in preventing the VAW through implementing workplace policies and programs, support systems for victims, and active male advocacy.

The annual observance is a continuous solidarity of DPWH for a definite purpose – a campaign to end violence against women and children—to make gender equality a lived reality. (LTC/PIA MIMAROPA/With report and photos from DPWH-SMDEO)
