DPWH’s P200M flood control projects ensures safety of Bagabag villagers

BAGABAG, Nueva Vizcaya (PIA) – Residents in the town of Bagabag, Nueva Vizcaya are now assured of safety from the threat of flooding with the recent completion of two flood control projects by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).

DPWH First District Engineer Marifel  Andes said the completed infrastructures are the Bakir Flood Control and Tuao South-Tuao North Flood Control structure projects.

“With the completion of these structures, the local community gains vital protection from potential property damage, disruptions, and safety risks caused by flooding,” she said.

The P100 million flood control project in Barangay Bakir covered the construction of a 554-linear meter slope protection with an embankment using steel sheet piling.

It was implemented and funded under the 2024 Regular Infrastructure Program which is expected to improve flood management and reduce disaster risks for the local community.

The P100 million Tuao North-Tuao South Flood Control Structure Project along the Magat River in Sitio Dumayop, on the other hand, features 540 linear meters of steel sheet pile slope protection and embankment.

Andes said this structure enhances flood protection for the residents of Tuao North and Tuao South, who have experienced flooding in past years due to the swelling of the Magat River during heavy rains.

She further said that these flood control structures mark a significant achievement in the efforts of DPWH to create safer and more resilient communities not only in Nueva Vizcaya but in the whole Cagayan Valley Region.(BME/PIA NVizcaya)
