DSWD 6 bares 4Ps’ success

ILOILO CITY (PIA) – The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) 6 reported the accomplishments of the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) in the region during the Kapihan sa Bagong Pilipinas last June 11.

DSWD 6 director lawyer Carmelo Nochete said that the program has reached an 89.72 percent compliance rate in terms of education of the 4Ps children as among the many significant progress this year.

The said number means that 89.72 percent of the time, the children are present in their schools, he said.

Further, the Family Development Sessions (FDS), another key component of the 4Ps program, also saw a high compliance rate of 96.82 percent.

These sessions serve as a platform to educate, empower, and nurture families towards strengthened capacity to meet familial and parental responsibilities on various aspects of livelihood.

“This means that parents are being educated in the aspect of livelihood,” he said in Hiligaynon.

Based on the DSWD data, the deworming initiatives that aim at promoting the health of young children have reached a 97.4 percent compliance rate.

For this year, the program has, so far, provided assistance to 361,756 families across the region.

These are 30,158 in Aklan; 28,770 in Antique; 37, 262 in Capiz; 8,788 in Guimaras; 97,248 in Iloilo province; 11,571 in Iloilo City; 138,722 in Negros Occidental; and 11,275 in Bacolod City.

Nochete also highlighted the impact of the program, noting the graduates who have pursued careers as teachers, social workers, engineers, lawyers, and other professionals.

“Ang manami gid tungod madamo na kita sang napatapos nga mga maestra, social worker engineer, may abogado na gani kag mga professionals, sila na mismo ang mabatak sa ila pamilya sa kapigaduhon,” he noted.

(The good thing is that we have graduates who are teachers, social workers, engineers, even lawyers and professionals, they will be the ones to lift their families out of poverty.)

The DSWD official stressed that the program has an after-care service to ensure sustained support for the beneficiaries.

Upon graduation from the 4Ps program, beneficiaries are turned over to Local Government Units (LGUs) for continued assistance and are prioritized for inclusion in the Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLP).

The SLP is a capacity program for the poor and vulnerable sector of the community to improve their socio-economic conditions by providing livelihood opportunities. (AAL/ED/PIA 6)
