Finalists of the DSWD Regional Search for Modelong Ama 2025. Fathers that embody the dedication and love of Filipino fatherhood.
PAGADIAN CITY (PIA) — Medal N. Banda, a single father of seven children from Labangan, Zamboanga del Sur, was named the region’s Modelong Ama (Model Father) ng Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) for 2025 for perseverance, devotion to his family, and active community involvement.
The award was given by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) as part of its search for outstanding Patawid Pamilya beneficiaries who serve as role models in their families and communities .
Banda, who began working as a farmer at the age of 18, now stands as a testament to the positive impact of the 4Ps program.
“Masaya ako dahil sa dinami rami ng mga amang kontenders ako ang napili, at ako po ay patuloy na maging mabuting ehemplo sa mga kapwa ko ama,” Banda shared, expressing his gratitude after being recognized.

(I am happy because, out of all the fathers contenders, I was chosen. I will continue to be a good example to my fellow fathers.)
His commitment goes beyond providing for his family’s needs- he actively participates in his children’s lives by joining school activities, tending to their needs, and making sure they feel loved and supported.
Through the 4Ps, Banda received not only financial assistance for his children’s education and health but also access to Family Development Sessions (FDS). These sessions helped enhance his parenting skills, with lessons on responsible parenting, child rights and protection, health and nutrition, and financial literacy.

“Ang mga anak ko ang naging inspirasyon ko sa buhay. Kaya ako ay nagsusumikap kahit mahirap ang buhay, para makuha nila ang kanilang pangangailangan. Mahirap man ang buhay, lumalaban ako para sa aking mga anak na umaasa sa akin,” he said
(My children are my inspiration in life. That’s why I strive, even though life is hard- so I can provide for their needs. Life may be difficult, but I keep fighting for my children who depend on me.)
Banda’s children, all high-achieving students and responsible members of the household, reflect his guidance and commitment. Their relationship is not just defined by roles but by mutual respect, shared responsibilities, and love.
Whether attending school events, doing chores together, or spending quality time, Banda ensures every moment nurtures their bond. His presence gives his children a strong sense of security and belonging.
“Sa lahat ng mga ama, wag tayong mawalan ng pag-asa. Lumaban lang sa buhay. Pag may sipag at tiyaga, mailalaban ang kahirapan,” he said, words that echo his resilient spirit. (To all fathers, let us not lose hope. Keep fighting in life. With hard work and perseverance, we can overcome poverty.)
Through Banda’s story, the DSWD hopes to inspire more parents and communities to see that true fatherhood goes beyond financial provision- it is about presence, sacrifice, and love in the home. (JPA/CCP/PKG/PIA9 – Zamboanga Del Sur)
