QUEZON CITY (PIA) — Acting on the order of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to deliver swift response to victims of floods from Severe Tropical Storm Kristine (international name: Trami), the Department of Social Welfare and Development Region 5 (DSWD-5) distributed family food packs (FFPs) and other non-food items to displaced families.
DSWD-5 responders distributed FFPs to 446 displaced families in various evacuation centers across 13 barangays in the Municipality of Irosin in Sorsogon on Wednesday, Oct. 23.
Moreover, 63 displaced families staying in the evacuation centers in Barangays Marifosque and Binanhuan also received FFPs from the DSWD that provide them with necessary support as they cope with the storm’s impact.
Responders also distributed 24 FFPs to internally displaced families from the barangays of Cagraray, Marinawa, and Guinobatan in Bato, Catanduanes, who fled their homes due to threats of landslides and flash floods in their areas.
In addition, 12 families in the Municipality of Bagamanoc received FFPs, as Catanduanes faced severe weather conditions. The DSWD field office 5 is in close collaboration with local government units (LGUs) to monitor the situation of evacuees.

Earlier, DSWD-5’s “Angels in Red Vests” delivered assistance to 301 stranded passengers at Pilar Port in Sorsogon province on Tuesday, Oct. 22.
Stranded passengers were given packed hot meals made from prepositioned family food packs that local authorities prepared and served for dinner.
Elsewhere, responders assisted stranded passengers in various ports in the region. They served hot meals to a total of 645 stranded individuals at Tabaco Port in Albay. They were served with hot meals for breakfast, valued at over P63,000. This assistance was made possible through a partnership between the Field Office and the Provincial Government of Catanduanes.
Also, pack meals for breakfast worth P30,000 were distributed to over 700 stranded passengers at Matnog Port in Sorsogon Province, courtesy of Matnog local government.
As the suspension of sea travel continued across the region, DSWD Bicol remained vigilant in monitoring all ports in Bicol and providing immediate assistance to any additional stranded individuals.
During the situation briefing of the National Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) at Camp Aguinaldo on Wednesday, Oct. 23, President Marcos pointed out the importance of swift delivery of assistance to the Bicol region hit hardest by floods. (PIA DMD)
