DSWD-CAR records 283 displaced families in Cordillera due to TC Julian

BAGUIO CITY (PIA) — The Department of Social Welfare and Development in the Cordillera region (DSWD-CAR) provides assistance and continues to conduct onsite monitoring of internally displaced persons (IDPs) in the region due to tropical cyclone Julian.

Based on the DSWD CAR  October 1 (12 noon) situational report, there are 283 families or a total of 883 IDPs in the Cordillera.

Of the 283 families, 90 with 237 persons are being assisted in 15 evacuation centers – eight in Abra, one in Baguio City, and three each in Apayao and Mountain Province. The other 193 families temporarily moved in with their relatives or friends.

Sixty-five of the families in evacuation centers are in Abra particularly in the municipalities of Dolores, Villaviciosa, Lagangilang, Sallapadan, Tubo and Bucay; 21 are in Luna and Calanasan in Apayao, one family in Irisan Barangay of Baguio City, and three in Besao and Tadian in Mountain Province.

The DSWD-CAR report also showed 10 damaged houses, of which two were fully damaged while eight were partially damaged.

The different local social welfare and development officers are currently conducting onsite monitoring of IDPs and for other effects of tropical cyclone Julian in their respective areas of responsibility.

For assistance, the DSWD-CAR also distributed food and non-food items (NFI) to affected families in Tuplac, Ifugao, and released family food packs (FFPs) and NFIs to the local government unit of Natonin for prepositioning.

As of 5PM, September 30 data, the DSWD-CAR has a stockpile of 64,264 FFPs and 24,074 NFIs that include family kits, hygiene kits, sleeping kits and kitchen kits, among others.

Under the Disaster Relief Prepositioning Agreement, the DSWD-CAR has FFPs strategically prepositioned in LGU warehouses. As of reporting period, there are 20,136 FFPs prepositioned in several LGUs with 7,800 in Abra; 5,440 in Apayao; 400 in Benguet; 2,192 in Ifugao; 3,404 in Mountain Province, and 900 in Kalinga.

The DSWD-CAR, as the vice chair for Disaster Response Cluster of the Cordillera Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council, maintains its Emergency Operations Center on red alert status  to provide augmentation to local governments that may require assistance. (JDP/CCD-PIA CAR)
