TABUK CITY, Kalinga(PIA) — The Department of Social Welfare and Development-Cordillera (DSWD-CAR) sent 3,200 family food packs from the Inter-agency Warehouse in Tabuk City, Kalinga to Region 2 on Friday (Nov. 8, 2024) to augment relief efforts for typhoon-affected families in Cagayan Valley.
The DSWD-Social Welfare and Development (SWAD) Kalinga supervised the turnover of the assistance meant for affected families in Region 2, which is the hardest hit by Typhoon Marce.
“With Typhoon Marce, Region 2 ang most affected and dito po kasi merong warehouse na pinakamalapit to Region 2, so through coordination sa Central Office to regional office [Cordillera and Region 2] andito na po ‘yung mga trucks to haul a total of 3,200 family food packs [to Region 2],” said Marle T. Legman of the DSWD-SWAD Kalinga said.
“Nai-turnover po namin ngayon ‘yung family food packs to help the families affected in Region 2,” Legman said.
The DSWD-Region 2 said many families are in need of assistance in Cagayan especially in the coastal areas due to the typhoon.
“Doon sa coastal areas especially Sta. Ana Cagayan and Gonzaga, malaki-laki po ang damage. Di ko lang po masabi ‘yung exact total number of affected families pero sa nakita ko ay marami po, nasa evacuation area po sila lahat,” said Edmin T. Duque of the DSWD- Region 2.
The provincial government of Cagayan also sent an additional three trucks to augment the two trucks provided by DSWD-Region 2 to transport the family food packs.
Personnel from the Office of the Civil Defense Cordillera, 1503rd Maneuver Company, Regional Mobile Force Battalion 15, 111st Special Action Company of the Special Action Forces of the Philippine National Police, Kalinga Provincial Mobile Force Company, Kalinga Police Provincial Office, and cash-for-work volunteers helped in loading family food packs.
The DSWD-CAR assured readiness to extend help to places in need of augmentation.
“This is a practice especially of the DSWD-CAR na every time there is a disaster, ever willing ang CAR to give any kind of augmentation, whether relief or psychosocial assistance,” Legman said.
DSWD-CAR earlier deployed a team to the Bicol region to augment response efforts in areas which were devastated by Tropical Cyclone Kristine. (JDP/IOS-PIA CAR, Kalinga)
