TUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan (PIA) – – As severe tropical storm ‘Julian’ departs from Northern Cagayan Valley, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Region 2 has swiftly begun distributing relief goods to families severely impacted by the storm.
Based on the DSWD’s latest monitoring, approximately 7,643 families, totaling 22,841 individuals across 95 barangays in Cagayan and Batanes, have been affected.
Regional Director Lucia Alan reported that 304 families, comprising 869 individuals, are sheltered in various evacuation centers.
Additionally, 560 families, or 1,954 individuals, have been displaced and sought temporary shelter with friends and relatives.
Alan noted that one house has been partially damaged, and assessments are ongoing to verify reports of additional damage from other affected municipalities.
“We have provided over P88,000 in humanitarian assistance, with P177.8 million in available relief resources, including a P3 million standby fund ready for emergency use,” Alan stated.
She assured that all evacuees and affected families receive assistance from their local government units.
The DSWD’s Disaster Response Management Unit has already initiated relief operations in the towns of Aparri, Santa Ana, and Santa Teresita in Cagayan province. (OTB/PIA Region 2)
