DSWD delivers P2.6-M worth of social services to Isabela’s coastal town

CITY OF ILAGAN, Isabela (PIA) – The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Region 2 has extended P2.626 million worth of social service assistance to marginalized communities in the geographically isolated coastal town of Dinapigue, Isabela.

The aid package included a range of services such as the Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situations, Social Pension for indigent senior citizens, and livelihood support for Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program beneficiaries. Food items were also distributed under the “Walang Gutom” initiative.

In addition, the DSWD team conducted monitoring visits for ongoing Sustainable Livelihood Programs (SLP), hosted information sessions on the First 1,000 Days Program, facilitated Listahanan data-sharing activities, and inspected prepositioned food and non-food relief items stored in the area.

DSWD Regional Director Lucia S. Alan emphasized the importance of bringing government services directly to underserved coastal communities.

“Given Dinapigue’s significant distance from our office, we consolidated multiple services to ensure our presence would have a meaningful and lasting impact,” she said.

Alan also commended the local government of Dinapigue for its strong support and swift coordination in facilitating the agency’s mission, despite logistical challenges and short-notice scheduling dictated by unpredictable weather.

“We deeply appreciate the LGU’s responsiveness and commitment to our shared goal of uplifting the welfare of their constituents,” Alan added.

Members of the Dumagat Indigenous Peoples community also expressed their gratitude for the assistance, noting the rarity of such outreach due to Dinapigue’s remote location—approximately a 10-hour drive from the regional center in Tuguegarao City. (OTB/MGE/PIA Isabela)
