DSWD distributes tents, hygiene kits, other essentials in areas hit by TS Kristine

QUEZON CITY (PIA) — The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) continues to provide immediate assistance to families and individuals affected by Tropical Storm Kristine (international name: Trami), which includes family food packs and hot meals, as well as essential non-food items (NFIs).

Among the distributed NFIs were family tents, modular tents, family kits, sleeping kits, hygiene kits, and kitchen kits.

The NFIs were distributed by the DSWD in coordination with local government units (LGUs), especially for the individuals who were displaced by the storm and brought to evacuation centers.

“The DSWD has already provided P2,326,978.60 worth of food and non-food items to the affected local government units (LGUs), specifically in the provinces of Albay, Camarines Sur, and Sorsogon in Bicol Region; Bacolod City in Region 6 (Western Visayas); and North Cotabato in SOCCSKSARGEN,” said Disaster Response Management Group (DRMG) Assistant Secretary Irene Dumlao, who is also the DSWD spokesperson.

In the October 23 report of the DSWD-Disaster Response Operations Management, Information and Communication (DROMIC), there were recorded 112,437 families (457,489 individuals) from 815 barangays from Regions 2, MIMAROPA, 5, 6, 8,12 and the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) that were affected by the storm.

Of this number, there were 4,092 families or 15,715 individuals that were temporarily moved to 267 evacuation centers set up by LGUs in the affected areas,

The DSWD Field Offices’ Quick Response Teams (QRTs) and Municipal Action Teams (MATs) in the affected regions were also mobilized and have been assisting local government units (LGUs) in attending to the needs of the evacuees.

In the SOCCSKSARGEN area, the DSWD Field Office 12 promptly delivered essential relief assistance to families in Barangay Bantac in Magpet town, Cotabato Province, on October 22. A total of 36 families whose homes were completely damaged received additional non-food items, including family kits, sleeping kits, hygiene kits, and kitchen kits.
