DSWD enhances camp management skills of disaster response teams

ILAGAN CITY, Isabela (PIA) – The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Region 2, through its Disaster Response Management Division (DRMD), recently conducted an enhancement training on camp coordination and management for the disaster response teams of Santiago City.

The training aimed to strengthen the city’s capacity to manage Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) during calamities effectively.

Franco Lopez, Assistant Regional Director for Operations of DSWD Region 2, stated that the agency is committed to providing such enhancement training to Local Government Units (LGUs) to ensure that affected individuals and families receive proper care during emergencies.

Lopez praised Santiago City for its proactive approach to disaster preparedness, noting that equipping disaster response teams with the necessary skills and knowledge is essential to safeguarding vulnerable populations in times of crisis.

He explained that the initiative seeks to improve the city’s immediate disaster response capabilities while also contributing to long-term resilience, ensuring that the community is better prepared for future calamities.

The training also included a simulation exercise, which allowed participants to practice response strategies, enhance decision-making, and strengthen teamwork in realistic emergency scenarios.

This initiative is part of DSWD’s ongoing efforts to bolster disaster response systems, helping communities respond more effectively to crises and ultimately improving their preparedness for future challenges. (OTB/MGE/PIA Isabela)
