DSWD expands aid for maternal health

QUEZON CITY, (PIA) — The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has announced a significant expansion of cash aid aimed at supporting pregnant women and mothers with children aged 0 to 2 years, a move that has garnered strong praise from a Navotas City solon.

Representative Toby Tiangco emphasized the critical importance of maternal and child health during the first 1,000 days of life, stating, “I welcome the administration’s efforts to expand the benefits under the 4Ps program, especially since this directly supports mothers.”

The DSWD’s new initiative, part of the F1KD program, will provide a monthly health grant of P350 to female beneficiaries of the 4Ps program who are pregnant or have young children.

This initiative is expected to benefit approximately 80,000 mothers.

Receiving this monthly assistance is a significant help in ensuring that mothers remain healthy throughout their pregnancies and after childbirth,” Tiangco noted, highlighting that the aid is crucial for safeguarding the well-being of both mothers and their newborns.

Moreover, Tiangco pointed out that the DSWD’s efforts align with the administration’s commitment to combat stunting and malnutrition, which are pressing public health issues.

It is vital that poverty does not become a barrier to protecting our mothers and their infants,” he said, reinforcing the importance of accessible healthcare.

The congressman commended the Marcos administration for its continuous efforts to improve healthcare services and ensure that programs are inclusive.

Investing in primary healthcare strengthens the foundation of an effective public health system. It nurtures life and safeguards the guiding light of Filipino homes,” Tiangco added.

Overall, the DSWD’s initiative represents a significant step forward in prioritizing maternal health and providing vital support to families in need.(JCO/PIA-NCR)
