DSWD extends financial assistance to ASF-stricken communities in Romblon and Oriental Mindoro

CALAPAN CITY, Oriental Mindoro (PIA) — The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Mimaropa through the DSWD Social Welfare and Development Team (SWADT) under the Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situations (AICS) program, distributed financial assistance amounting to P5,578,000 to the African Swine Fever (ASF)-affected residents of Cajidiocan and San Fernando in the province of Romblon, as well as to the residents of Roxas in Oriental Mindoro on November 10.

A total of 1,829 families from both provinces benefitted from the cash distribution. From these numbers, 903 families from Cajidiocan received cash assistance amounting to P2,000 each; 686 families from San Fernando also received an amount of P2,000 each. Meanwhile, 240 families from Roxas, Oriental Mindoro received P10,000.

The financial aid, tailored to the specific needs of each affected family, aims to address immediate concerns such as loss of income and economic instability. The department is working closely with the local authorities to ensure that the assistance reaches those most severely affected by the ASF outbreak.

Some residents of Cajidiocan and San Fernando in Romblon, as well as those in Roxas, Oriental Mindoro, have expressed gratitude for the prompt response from DSWD Mimaropa. Many families in these areas heavily rely on the swine industry for their livelihoods, and the financial assistance is seen as a crucial lifeline during this challenging period.

Meanwhile, the DSWD is closely working with the Local Government Units (LGUs) of the provinces affected by the outbreak in order to ensure that additional issues will be addressed accordingly to the emerging needs of the affected residents. (JJGS/PIA Mimaropa – Oriental Mindoro)
