DSWD Ilocos distributes 1,410 food packs to Carina-affected families in Dagupan City

DAGUPAN CITY, Pangasinan (PIA) — The Department of Social Welfare and Development Field Office 1 (DSWD FO 1) distributed an initial of 1,410 Family Food Packs (FFPs) and non-food items in Dagupan City to provide essential aid and relief to families affected by southwest monsoon and Super Typhoon “Carina.”

Marie Angela Gopalan, DSWD Region 1 Director emphasized providing immediate support and ensuring that assistance reaches the families most in need during and after calamities.

Families from barangays Lasip Chico, Lucao, Carael, and Calmay, all of which are affected by flooding due to the weather disturbance, received these relief packs.

The FFPs include six kilograms of rice, four cans of tuna and corned beef, two cans of sardines, five sachets of coffee mix, and five packs of cereal drink.

Ken Justine Orienza, a service crew in a fast food chain who cares for his senior citizen grandmother from Lasip Chico village, shared his gratitude, “Kami po ay taos pusong nag papasalamat sa agarang tulong na food packs mula sa DSWD lalo na po sa tuwing may bagyo na sinasabayan ng pagtaas ng tubig sa amin kung kaya’t hindi ako nakakapasok sa aking trabaho para bantayan at samahan ang aking lola kung mas tumaas ang baha.”

(Thank you for the immediate assistance with the food packs from the DSWD. Each time a typhoon hits, the river overflows and floods our area, which prevents me from going to work and requires me to stay with my grandmother to ensure her safety during the rising waters.)

DSWD Region 1 has distributed 22,478 FFPs and 319 non-food items to local government units across the Ilocos Region, with the total assistance valued at P17,256,043.68.

In Region 1, Super Typhoon Carina has affected 96,876 families, comprising 377,014 individuals.

DSWD FO 1 is continuously conducting comprehensive coordination meetings across the Ilocos region to ensure the effective distribution of aid, address the evolving needs of affected families, and provide timely and targeted support for early recovery efforts.

The city government of Dagupan also distributed relief goods, vitamins, and anti-leptospirosis medicine, and has established a 24/7 evacuation center at the Astrodome Building for those affected by the recent typhoon. (MJTAB/RPM/PIA Pangasinan)
