DSWD launches community-run gas station in Oriental Mindoro

CALAPAN CITY, Oriental Mindoro (PIA) — The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) in MIMAROPA has inaugurated a community-run gasoline station in Roxas town, Oriental Mindoro to support the livelihood of Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) beneficiaries.

The project was funded through a ₱600,000 seed capital under DSWD’s Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLP) that aims to provide sustainable income to the 30-member The Field Masters SLP Association composed of 4Ps beneficiaries.

Located in Proper Bal-ong, Barangay San Jose, the gasoline station is expected to serve  as a livelihood source that will empower the members of the association in their vision to achieve financial independence, said in a DSWD MIMAROPA Facebook post.

In his message, The Field Masters SLP Association president Eliseo Gaca expressed gratitude to DSWD and the SLP for the opportunity provided to their association.

“Lubos po ang aming pasasalamat sa DSWD MIMAROPA at sa Sustainable Livelihood Program sa pagbibigay ng oportunidad na ito sa aming asosasyon. Ang pagkakaroon ng sariling gasoline station ay isang malaking hakbang para sa amin—hindi lamang para sa kabuhayan ng bawat miyembro, kundi para rin sa pag-unlad ng aming komunidad,” Gaca said.

He emphasized that the association could not make this project possible without the help of DSWD Project Development Officers (PDO) and SLP staff, stressing “Makakaasa po kayo na aming sisinupin at palalaguin ang kabuhayang ibinigay nyo sa amin.”

Meanwhile, DSWD Project Development Officer Necy V. Maac also highlighted the commitment of the department in supporting the SLPA.

“Seeing the gasoline station project of The Field Masters SLPA come to life is truly inspiring. The members have shown unwavering commitment since the planning stage, and today, we witness the fruits of their hard work,” she said.

She ensured that DSWD will continue to provide support through regular monitoring, coaching and technical assistance. (AN/OJT-PIA MIMAROPA/With reports and photos from DSWD MIMAROPA)
