DSWD prepares ‘ready-to-eat food’ boxes for disaster relief

MANILA, (PIA) — In line with the directive of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. to enhance the country’s disaster response, Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Secretary Rex Gatchalian announced the upcoming launch of ready-to-eat-food (RTEF) boxes.

This initiative, Gatchalian said, is being developed in collaboration with the Department of Science and Technology (DOST), and aims to provide immediate assistance to families in evacuation centers.

Right now, we augment hot meals, but we’re about to introduce our DOST ready-to-eat food (RTEF) box. It’s designed to be convenient,” he announced during a situation briefing with President Marcos on the effects of Tropical Storm Kristine in Camp Aguinaldo, Quezon City on Wednesday, October 23.

Everything is ready to eat, including protein bars and other nutritious items sourced from DOST,” he added, emphasizing on the importance of quick response in times of crisis.

The RTEF boxes are expected to be distributed within 48 hours of a disaster, ensuring that affected families receive nutritious food promptly.

The initiative also underscores the DSWD’s commitment to supporting communities during emergencies.

The launch of the RTEF boxes is set for next month, further enhancing the agency’s disaster response efforts. (GLG/PIA-NCR)
