ILOILO CITY (PIA)—The Department of Social Welfare and Development 6 (DSWD 6) has prepositioned a total of 111,715 family food packs (FFPs) in key locations in Western Visayas as Kanlaon exhibits increased volcanic activity.
DSWD-6 Disaster Response Information Management Section Head Claud Jan Marquez reported during the Pre-Disaster Risk Assessment (PDRA) meeting held in Iloilo City on Sept. 12 that 33,610 FFPs were being
stored at the DSWD regional warehouse in Oton, Iloilo, while 30,990 were stockpiled at the agency’s regional warehouse in Bacolod City, and 47,115 were prepositioned in key in key locations around the region.
DSWD 6 also reported that an additional 2,000 FFPs and 500 hygiene kits were prepositioned recently in La Castellana town from the Bacolod City warehouse.
Marquez added that DSWD 6 can always request augmentation from its production hub in Cebu for additional food and non-food items if Kanlaon Volcano’s restiveness escalates.
Aside from FFPS, DSWD 6 has also prepositioned P54.574 million worth of non-food items (NFIs) all over the region as part of the preparations.
These NFIs include 486 hygiene kits, 8,830 sleeping kits, 6,054 kitchen kits, 4,053 family kits, 1,535 modular tents, and 329 family tents.
Marquez also said the DSWD 6 could use its P3 million standby fund if needed.
For his part, DSWD Field Office 6 director lawyer Carmelo N. Nochete said they are prepared to immediately respond to the needs of families affected by Kanlaon activities. (AAL/EJB/PIA 6)
