DSWD recognizes Siquijor 4Ps Exemplary Children

SIQUIJOR, Siquijor (PIA) — The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) here has recognized the awardees of the Provincial Search for Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) Exemplary Children 2024.

After a thorough evaluation of the nominees from the six municipalities in Siquijor province, 11 year-old Yasmin B. Baguio from Barangay Ytaya, Lazi, Siquijor was declared the winner this year and also the 2nd placer in the regional level of the search.

Baguios’s advocacy in financial literacy set her apart from other nominees by educating others on the importance of saving and investing for future security, aligning with the program’s objectives for beneficiaries.

In her presentation, Baguio encouraged young people to secure their future.

“Ang akong adbokasiya mao ang pagdasig sa mga batan-on isip elementary, nga magsave ug mag-invest para sa ilang brighter future nga parehas nako, naka-save nako sa PMPC (Paglaum Multi-Purpose Cooperative) para pud sa akong brighter future,” she said.

(My advocacy is to encourage young people, starting as early as elementary school, to save and invest for their brighter future, just like me. I’ve already saved through PMPC to ensure my own bright future.)

Baguio also emerged as the 2nd place winner in the regional level of the search.

In the same event, Cristal Mae A. Lambiguit frm Maria, Siquijor, was recognized as the 1st runner-up, followed by Frenciemer Candy I. Balunguit from Enrique Villanueva, John Darren O. Ates from the town of Siquijor, and Siquijiah Joy Abing from San Juan, Siquijor.

Each winner received a plaque and a cash prize.

The DSWD’s initiative highlights the importance of engaging young people in community development and social welfare programs with the aim of cultivating a generation that values responsibility, resilience, and advocacy. (RAC/PIA7-Siquijor)
