DSWD’s Food Stamp program now in full swing in Talakag, Bukidnon

TALAKAG, Bukidnon (PIA) — The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Food Stamp Program, part of the Food Redemption under the Walang Gutom 2027 initiative, rolls out in Talakag, Bukidnon.

Sixty beneficiaries from barangays Basak, Santo Niño, and Sagaran have begun redeeming their monthly P3,000 food credits using Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) cards.

Of the 843 target beneficiaries in Talakag town, 643 have been verified. The program allows these beneficiaries to use their credits at DSWD-accredited retailers to purchase five predetermined options that offer a variety of combinations of healthy foods like carbohydrates, proteins, fruits, and vegetables.

Region 10 has set a target of 9,269 beneficiaries in Bukidnon and Lanao del Norte provinces, with nearly 60 percent already qualified. Another set of verifications will be conducted this August.

Beneficiaries were identified from the Listahanan 3 database in 2019, which includes non-4P beneficiaries.

DSWD Field Office-10 Assistant Regional Director for Operations Ronald Ryan Cui and Promotive Services Division Chief Glofelia Uayan recently visited the site to provide technical assistance and ensure effective program implementation.

Next week, beneficiaries in Iligan City will start their food credit redemption,” Cui said.

The Food Stamp program, running until 2027, aims to provide one meal per day through food augmentation.

Through this program, the DSWD will deposit food credits into beneficiaries’ EBT cards every month for three years. It will also provide nutritional education and capacity building to family members to ensure employment and sustain the household by consistently bringing food to their tables.

Another 10,607 beneficiaries are scheduled for allocation in next year’s implementation. (DSWD-10/PIA-10/Bukidnon)
