DTI Aklan leads coastal cleanup drive

KALIBO, Aklan (PIA) — The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) here spearheaded a Coastal Clean-up Drive along Lambingan Beach, Andagao going to Pook Port, Pook, Kalibo, Aklan.

This activity was part of the celebration of Consumer Welfare Month, with this year’s theme, “Be Smart, Assert Your Consumer Rights!”

At least 70 government employees, barangay officials and staffers, and representatives of private institutions and non-government organizations joined the coastal clean-up on Oct. 17, 2024.

In a statement, Provincial Director Romel L. Amihan emphasized the importance of participating in community cleanup activities for their constituents.

“This is one of the activities nga naka line-up sa CWM nga naka focus sa right to a healthy environment,” Amihan said.

 (This is one of the activities that line up with CWM which focuses on a healthy environment.)

Trash and debris, including plastics and other waste materials, were collected during the cleanup.

Amihan expressed his appreciation and encouraged everyone to let this not be a one-day effort. Caring for the environment is a responsibility each must carry every day.

“Ang aton advocacy hindi lang dapat mag end sa CWM Celebration ang ini nga cleanup drive,” he said.

(This advocacy, the cleanup drive should not end at the CWM Celebration.)

“Ang ini nga initiative hay very doable gid,” he added.

(This initiative is very doable.)
