LEGAZPI CITY, Albay (PIA) — As the new year draws near, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Albay is urging consumers to buy fireworks with the Philippine Standard (PS) mark to guarantee safe and quality products.
Alexandro M. Novora, senior trade and industry specialist and enforcement and mediation officer of DTI Albay, said that fireworks are regulated products under the Philippine National Standard (PNS) and must adhere to strict safety standards.
“When it comes to firecrackers, we already regulate that product. This is under the Philippines National Standard (PNS) 1220: 1994,” Novora said during the Talakayan sa PIA Albay program.
Novora cited Dragon Fireworks, Diamond, LF Fireworks, Pegasus, Phoenix, Andy’s Fireworks, and 4Sure Fireworks among the certified fireworks brands approved by DTI Albay.
He also noted the importance of clear and proper labels for fireworks.
These include the product name, classification and intended use, brand and trade name, name and address of the manufacturer, warning and precautionary signs, appropriate usage instructions, potential effects, and country of origin.
“The product must carry the Philippine Standard (PS) quality mark along with a valid license number to guarantee compliance with safety and quality standards,” Novora said.
He further calls on consumers to exercise vigilance and caution when purchasing fireworks.
“We always advise consumers to be vigilant. Know their rights and exercise responsibility. Ensure that the products being purchased are legitimate and sourced from reputable sellers,” he said.
“Avoid deals that seem too good to be true,” Novora added.
For Anjiee Mañago of Tabon-Tabon, Daraga, Albay, the DTI’s active presence is significant during the holiday season.
“Their efforts are crucial as they provide consumers with essential advice and guidance. They serve as a reliable partner for shoppers, ensuring that every purchase is safe, responsible, and compliant with regulations,” she said. (With reports from Raiza Lucido/PIA5/Albay)
