BANGUED, Abra (PIA) — Christmas is not complete without Christmas lights, ham, keso de bola, fruit cocktail and pastas. These goods top the sales of supermarkets during the yuletide season.
With the rush for Christmas shopping, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) advises Abrenian consumers to be vigilant and cautious in buying various products and items.
During a flag raising ceremony at the Capitol, DTI-Abra officer-in-charge Marvin Arcangel gave some tips to avoid scam, and buying overpriced and substandard products this holiday season.
“Nu gumatgatanga kayo ti Christmas lights, ammoen dagiti sumaganad: basaen a nalaing ti kumpleto a label, brand name, address of manufacturer and country of origin nu imported ken kangrunaanna, sapulen ti ICC marks,” [When you but Christmas lights, read the labels carewfully, the brand name, address of manufacturer and country of origin if imported. Most importantly, always check for the ICC marks] Arcangel explained.
“Amirisen a nalaing ti wires kada saksakan na, nu naingpis, saan tayon a gatangenen ta dagitoy ket substandard a pagtaudan ti uram,” [Carefully inspect the wires and socket, if they are fragile, do not buy them because they are substandard which could cause fire breakouts], he emphasized.
For Noche Buena products, Arcangel said that the DTI has already issued a price guide at its website.
“Adda ti price guide ti Noche Noche Buena products nga inyulog ti DTI, bisitaen tayo ti website ti DTI ta daytoy ti agserbi nga guide nu intayo gumatang tapno adda pangibasarantayo as against the prevailing prices tayo ditoy Bangued,” [The DTI issued a price guide for Noche Buena Products which can be found at the DTI website. This will serve as your guide so that you have a basis against the prevailing prices here in Bangued] he said.
“Haan a mailibak ti bassit ang panagpangato ti presyo especially tatta nga Christmas season kadagiti sumagmamano nga Nochue Buena products ngem nanayonan ti klase wenno brand nga intayo pagpilian that’s why we need to exercise our right to choose, be alert and be questioning,” [There is slight price hike among Noche Buena products this Christmas season but there are more brands to choose from, that’s why we need to exercise our right to choose; be alert and be questioning] he added.
Arcangel reported that based on their recent monitoring, they found some sellers and retailers of uncertified and substandard products. Charges against them are now being filed.
He assured that DTI will intensify product monitoring and inspection in the weeks towards Christmas and new year celebrations. (JDP/CGT – PIA CAR, Abra)
