DTI boosts fossilized flower industry in Quirino

CABARROGUIS, Quirino (PIA)- – To revitalize the fossilized flower industry of Quirino province,  the Department of Trade and Industry Region 2 launched its  LIFE Project or Leveraging Institutionalized Development for Fossilized Industry and Enterprises.

The initiative, in collaboration with the Cooperative Development Authority (CDA) Region 02 and the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) District Office 16, commenced with a Pre-Registration Seminar attended by 24 local fossilized flower manufacturers.

DTI Quirino Provincial Director Mary Ann Corpuz-Dy emphasized the “3Ks” strategy to uplift the industry, namely: Kumilos or to act,  by taking steps to sustain and expand the fossilized flower industry; Kooperasyon (Cooperation)- fostering unity and dedication among stakeholders, and Kooperatiba (Cooperative)- organizing of an active provincial multi-purpose cooperative with focus joint production, marketing, and input supply of fossilized flowers.

“This initiative to transform your industry to a registered cooperative will give you entitlement to enjoy better economic opportunities and greater resilience, which means your industry can enjoy benefits from different agencies with more impactful livelihood assistance for cooperatives,” Dy said.

She also stressed that the launch of the LIFE Project marks a significant milestone in empowering local entrepreneurs and strengthening Quirino’s position as a key player in the fossilized flower industry.

Ferdinand B. Tallud, cooperative development specialist of CDA Region 02, facilitated the Pre-Membership Orientation, guiding the participants through the cooperative registration process, necessary documentation, cooperative values, organizational structure, and the roles and responsibilities of members.

Meanwhile, Britz Ceazar F. Gabay and  Herald A. Quintua, revenue officers of BIR District Office 16, presented topics on Business Registration Guidelines and the Application Process for Cooperative Tax Exemption, providing participants with valuable insights on tax compliance and benefits.
