DTI-Bukidnon, DepEd Valencia collaborate to empower young consumers

VALENCIA CITY, Bukidnon (PIA) — The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Bukidnon Provincial Office and the Department of Education (DepEd) Division of Valencia City have joined forces to empower young consumers through a comprehensive Consumer Education and Advocacy Program.

The partnership, formalized through a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) signed on September 6, 2024, aims to equip students with the knowledge and skills necessary to make informed and responsible consumer decisions.

This initiative benefits young consumers by fostering critical thinking and enhancing their ability to discern quality products, identify fair pricing, and understand consumer rights. Consequently, these empowered individuals will be better equipped to make wise purchasing choices, leading to improved financial literacy and economic stability.

DTI-Bukidnon Provincial Director Famelah Racquel D. Villanueva and DepEd Schools Division Superintendent Dr. Jesnar Dems S. Torres, Jr., expressed their shared commitment to promoting consumer literacy among the youth, emphasizing that this collaboration is vital for nurturing a generation of informed consumers who can contribute to a robust economy.

By integrating consumer education into the Araling Panlipunan curriculum for Grades 9 and 10 students in Valencia City, the program will provide students with practical knowledge about consumer rights, responsibilities, and strategies for making informed purchases.

This integration not only enhances students’ academic experiences but also cultivates responsible citizens who understand the impact of their choices on the market.

DTI and DepEd Valencia City strive to create a more consumer-friendly environment through this collaborative effort. They will empower young consumers to navigate the marketplace confidently while the government gains from a more informed citizenry that drives sustainable economic growth and promotes fair market practices.
