ROXAS CITY, Capiz (PIA) — The Department of Trade and Industry launches three consumer corners in Roxas City to promote consumer protection in celebration of Consumer Welfare Month.
Chief Trade-Industry Development Specialist Merian A. Asas, representing Provincial Director Ken Queenie R. Cuñada, inaugurated consumer corners at Vic Imperial Appliance Corporation in Brgy. Lawaan, Autoprog Vehicle Preventive Maintenance Services in Brgy. Banica, and TW Car Care Center also in Brgy. Lawaan.
DTI information officer Marjorie Tendras noted that the project is anchored on the state’s policy to protect consumers and establish a standard of conduct for the business industry.
“Consumer Corners are envisioned to further the agency’s mandate to protect consumers and establish a standard of conduct for business and industry by providing readily accessible consumer-related information materials,” Tendras said.
The DTI and the partner establishments also inked a Memorandum of Agreement outlining the joint responsibilities for a readily accessible information desk for consumers.
This year’s Consumer Welfare Month with the theme “Be Smart, Assert Your Consumer Rights!” aims at engaging and educating consumers.
According to DTI, the first week of Consumer Welfare Month will address the primary consumer rights, basic needs, choices, and redress, establishing a foundation for consumer empowerment.
Safety takes center stage in the second week, emphasizing the importance of consumer protection.
Further, the third week emphasizes promoting a healthy environment by aligning consumer rights with sustainability.
While in the fourth week, it will center on information, consumer education, and representation.
In addition, the DTI-Capiz will have an advocacy seminar on the Bureau of Philippine Standards product certification scheme on Oct. 30, and reorganization of the Capiz Retailers Association on Oct. 31. (AGP/PLF/ PIA Capiz)
