ILOILO CITY (PIA) — YEP, You Can Be Your Own Boss (BYOB).
The Youth Entrepreneurship Program (YEP) – You Can Be Your Own Boss (BYOB) of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) and the Department of Education (DepEd) pushes for youth entrepreneurship education in 31 farm schools throughout the region.
Young students are equipped with business skills and financial literacy while learning in schools through the formalized partnership of DTI and DepEd.
“We are the main catalyst for economic development, and we want to develop more entrepreneurs. It’s good to start with the youth,” DTI Western Visayas regional director Rachel Nufable said.
Under the agreement, DTI will provide training, mentorship, and market linkages, while the DepEd will coordinate with farm schools and train teachers in entrepreneurship education.
According to DepEd Western Visayas regional director Ramir Uytico, the program aims to prepare students for self-sufficiency and business management, allowing them to earn while learning.
“We want our learners from farm schools to also earn and to educate people so that, in our simple little ways, we can eradicate hunger and poverty in Western Visayas,” Uytico added.
The YEP is a focused program that encourages the youth to become productive individuals through entrepreneurship. (AAL/ED/PIA6)
