CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY (PIA) — The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) is urging entrepreneurs and aspiring business owners to participate in its mentoring programs designed to support business growth.

One program, the Kapatid Mentor ME (KMME), helps micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) through a 10-module mentorship and coaching program. This year, DTI-10 has inducted 101 MSMEs as mentees: 20 from Bukidnon, 15 from Camiguin, 21 from Lanao del Norte, 20 from Misamis Occidental, and 25 from Misamis Oriental.

“The bottom line of why we are helping these MSMEs is because they are job creators,” said DTI Misamis Oriental Provincial Director Jesusa Abear.

Although KMME has been ongoing since 2016, Abear emphasized that its mentoring methods and modules are updated to address changing business needs. “We need to constantly learn things, ga evolve ang way of doing things, labaw na sa negosyo, labaw na karun with digitalization,” she said.

Abear added that DTI supports MSMEs through a ladderized system, focusing on continuous improvement rather than one-time solutions.

In addition to KMME, DTI offers modular business learning sessions for new entrepreneurs and business advisory services at local Negosyo Centers, which assist with registration, information, and advocacy.

DTI has also partnered with organizations like the Philippine Institute of Certified Public Accountants to provide entrepreneurs with financial management assistance.

While many see entrepreneurship as a sideline, Abear stressed that business is demanding. “It’s something you put your heart and soul into,” she said.

Abear assured entrepreneurs that DTI’s support will continue. “Bisan pag naa sa kalisod, padayun lang gihapon atong pag suporta ug pag promote sa mga katawhan nga willing to grow and go into business.”
