DTI reiterates compliance to fair trade laws, consumer rights

SAN JOSE, Antique (PIA) — The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) underscores the importance of compliance to fair trade laws (FTL) and upholding consumer rights.

In a radio interview, DTI Antique Provincial Director Mutya D. Eusores said businesses must comply with the FTL and competition regulations to promote a healthy environment for both entrepreneurs and consumers.

Otherwise, Eusores warned that corresponding penalties under the law await erring business establishments.

She said that DTI’s Consumer Protection Unit (CPU) works round the clock to ensure transparency and accountability in business transactions, creating a fair and secure marketplace.

The official also urged the public to contribute to promoting and protecting their consumer rights and emphasized the need for vigilance to prevent deceptive and disadvantageous practices.

“As consumers, we all deserve fair treatment, safe products, and correct information,” said Eusores.

This October, DTI leads the celebration of Consumer Welfare Month (CWM) to highlight the rights and responsibilities of consumers, as outlined in Republic Act (R.A.) 7394 or The Consumer Act of the Philippines.

Anchored on the theme “Be Smart, Assert Your Consumer Rights,” this year’s iteration of the CWM empowers the public to be informed about, understand, and uphold their consumer rights.

By doing so, the public can help create a fairer system and build a more equitable market for all.

“Ang CWM is a crucial reminder sa importance kang consumer rights and the need for continuous efforts para ma protektaran kag ma-promote ang amo ja nga mga rights,” Eusores stressed.

To celebrate CWM, DTI annually initiates “In-Store Diskwento”, “Diskwento Caravan” and other similar activities across the country, collaborating with business establishments in providing promotions and discounts to give consumers more value for their purchases.
