DAVAO CITY (PIA) — The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) continues to reinforce consumer protection by ensuring strict compliance with sales promotion regulations. The agency emphasizes the importance of securing proper permits before businesses, retailers and wholesalers launch any promotional campaigns.
DTI Acting Assistant Regional Director Rachel S. Remitio highlighted the significance of regulation and compliance in sales promotions to uphold transparency and safeguard consumer rights. Sales promotions are governed under the Consumer Act of the Philippines, which mandates businesses secure a sales promotion permit from the DTI before implementing any promotional activities.
“Part of the mechanics should show the original price and the discount to determine whether they are providing accurate information or misleading consumers,” Remitio said.
She clarified that to ensure consumer protection and fair trade practices, businesses applying for a sales promotion permit must submit the original price and discount details.
The DTI carefully evaluates all applications before issuing permits, reinforcing its commitment to ensuring transparency and compliance in promotional activities.
In addition to sales promotion compliance, Remitio also underscored the importance of adhering to the Price Tag Law, which requires all retailers and wholesalers to display accurate price tags on their products.
She stressed that this law plays a crucial role in ensuring transparency in pricing and providing essential information to consumers when making purchasing decisions.
“The price tag is a law, so definitely, all retailers and wholesalers must comply with it. It is important because it provides buyers with the necessary information and helps them decide whether to purchase a product or not. That is very important, and that is why we at the DTI, as the agency mandated to implement and monitor compliance with this law, conduct regular inspections of establishments,” Remitio said.
