DTI Tarlac inspects weighing scales in Camiling

TARLAC CITY (PIA) — The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) inspected the weighing scales used by vendors at the public market of Camiling, Tarlac.

The activity, in partnership with the Tarlac Consumer’s Council Inc. and the local price coordinating council, is part of the consumer protection mandate of the agency in line with Republic Act No. 7394 otherwise known as the Consumer Act of the Philippines.

DTI OIC-Provincial Director Florencia Balilo said the initiative seeks to provide services both to consumers and local government units (LGUs).

“This activity aims to assist LGUs to strengthen the advocacy on the implementation of the Law on Weights and Measures to protect the interest and promote the welfare of the consumers,” Balilo explained.

Out of the 176 analog and digital weighing scales inspected, 16 were found to be defective. These were confiscated and turned over to the Office of the Market Administrator.

Meanwhile, DTI Tarlac Trade-Industry Development Specialist Wessa Dizon briefed the market vendors regarding the Laws on Weights and Measures and proper handling of weighing scales.
