DTI, TESDA launch 3D printing course in Marinduque

BOAC, Marinduque (PIA) — The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) and the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) MIMAROPA launched a new 3D printing course, set to be offered at the Marinduque Provincial TESDA Center starting next quarter this year.

This was announced during the event “Shared Service Facilities (SSF) for Creative Industry in Marinduque: Sparking a Creative Renaissance–Innovation as the Game Changer” held at the Provincial TESDA Center in Mogpog town on March 5.

During the event, TESDA Marinduque Provincial Director Vergel Soriano explained that the new course aims to teach students of the functional analysis and competency standards for the innovative technology of 3D printing and engraving.

Soriano said that TESDA’s goal is to make this technology accessible not only to the youth of Marinduque but also to those involved in engineering fields.

“Nais ng TESDA na maibahagi ang mga ganitong teknolohiya hindi lamang sa mga kabataan ng Marinduque, kundi pati na rin sanayin ang mga nasa larangan ng engineering,” he said.

He added that with 3D printing, projects can be completed faster, cleaner and more efficient.

TESDA also sees potential benefits for micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in the region.

Through training and production programs, MSMEs could collaborate with TESDA, enabling the youth to produce token items or souvenirs. This initiative would also create job opportunities, helping MSMEs and providing hands-on experience for young trainees.

The total value of the 3D printing machine is ₱4,840,000 composed of four components, namely a plastic shredder with an integrated granulator, a dual extruder pellet and filament 3D printer, a CO2 laser cutting and engraving machine and a handheld 3D scanner with an onboard screen.

In conjunction with the launch, a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) and Usufruct Agreement were signed between DTI Regional Director Rodolfo Mariposque and TESDA Regional Director Angelina Carreon, with the signing witnessed by DTI Provincial Director Roniel Macatol, TESDA Marinduque Provincial Director Soriano, and Marinduque Governor Presbitero Velasco Jr. (DN/AS/PIA MIMAROPA-Marinduque)
