CITY OF ILAGAN, Isabela (PA) – The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) and the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA), in partnership with the Local Government Unit of Gamu, Isabela, have successfully trained 15 Isabela Green Ladies Organization (IGLO) members on cassava processing, packaging, labeling and marketing.
The training has equipped the IGLO member participants in processing cassava root crops that are abundant in the town.
Assistant Professor Leona S. Cayapan discussed with the participants the various benefits and importance of cassava, followed by a hands-on demonstration of making cassava-based products such as cake, espasol, chips, crackers, pichi-pichi, and polvoron.
Cayapan said the training enabled the participants to process cassava from peeling up to cooking and preserving.
“We let the participants undergo hands-on in cassava processing and we guide them on the procedures to ensure preservation and marketability of their products,” Cayapan said.
She said that the practical approach will ensure that all participants will thoroughly learn and absorb the procedures and techniques involved in cassava processing.
Trade and Industry Development Specialist Emma Jane Domingo also taught the participants about packaging and labeling.
She emphasized that good packaging and labeling attract buyers.
Meanwhile, DTI Negosyo Center Senior Business Counsellor Frances Monique Peredo discussed effective marketing to ensure higher sales of their products.
The collaborative effort of DTI, TESDA, and LGU Gamu marks a significant milestone in empowering community members, particularly women groups by providing them with advanced techniques, marketing knowledge, and valuable insights, thereby fostering economic growth and development in their community.
