PUERTO PRINCESA CITY, Palawan (PIA) — Two more Shared Service Facilities (SSF) will be established by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI)-MIMAROPA in Palawan this year.
DTI-MIMAROPA Consumer Protection Division chief Versuelo R. Garcia III announced during the Kapihan sa Bagong Pilipinas on March 11 that two municipalities will benefit from the agency’s SSF under the “Greening the Shared Service Facilities (SSF) 2025 Innovation Projects.”
These projects are in response to the United Nations’ sustainable development goals.
The SSF projects are Fish Processing in Linapacan town and Rattan Wicker and Furniture Making in San Vicente town.
The Fish Processing SSF is funded by DTI-MIMAROPA with ₱4.8 million, which will benefit the eight Linapacan Basnigan Association Barangay Cluster, composed of approximately 281 fishing boats.
According to DTI-Palawan Provincial Director Hazel DP Salvador, the agency has also funded the Rattan Wicker and Furniture Manufacturing SSF with ₱2.5 million worth of equipment. The beneficiaries of this project are the Macatumbalen Community-Based Forest and Coastal Management Association.
From 2022 to 2024, DTI-MIMAROPA has established 12 SSF projects in the MIMAROPA region, eight of which are located in Palawan.
These SSFs include the Upgrading of the Virgin Coconut Oil Processing Center, which benefits the Brooke’s Point Coco Products Cooperative; Seaweed Processing, benefiting the Marcilla Seaweed Grower Association; Fish Processing and Upgrading of Fish Processing for the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Busuanga; Fish Processing in LGU Linapacan; Upgrading of Handicraft Production in Cuyo town; Abaca Stripping and Twining for Maharlika and Little Caramay; and Food Processing, which benefits Aloha House, Inc-Palawan.
