DTI unveils ‘Pamaskong Handog’ Trade Fair to celebrate local MSMEs in La Union

SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union (PIA) – – The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) La Union has recently launched for the 12th year its ‘Pamaskong Handog’ trade fair at the CSI City Mall here.

Running until December 22, the event showcases the best local products while empowering micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) to innovate, grow, and thrive.

Over the past years, the ‘Pamaskong Handog’ trade fair has evolved into a crucial platform for La Union’s entrepreneurs, offering opportunities for exposure, product development, and market expansion.

This time, it features an impressive array of handcrafted items, furniture made from sustainable materials, health and wellness products, fresh produce, processed food, beverages, and native delicacies displayed in each participant’s booths.

Victoria Ordoño, officer-in-charge provincial director of DTI La Union, emphasized the trade fair’s transformative impact.

“This initiative is more than just a seasonal promotion. It is a long-term investment in the success of our MSMEs,” she said.

She added, “As we navigate this impactful event, let us not only celebrate the talents and innovations of our entrepreneurs but also reflect on our collective role in supporting their growth. Together, we can create a more vibrant, inclusive, and sustainable economy for La Union and beyond.”

The trade fair has inspired budding entrepreneurs to turn their business ideas into reality.

Ordoño noted that many participants started with hesitation but gained confidence and experience through the event.

“We have helped aspiring business owners take their first steps. Today, they are here, presenting high-quality, innovative products,” she said.

To ensure sustained growth, DTI provides assistance beyond the fair.

Participating MSMEs benefit from workshops on product development, branding, and marketing, ensuring they remain competitive in an evolving market.

Jerome Barbadillo, a participating entrepreneur and visual artist, shared that the trade fair has been instrumental in inspiring the youth to appreciate and support local arts and crafts.

“This trade fair is not just about selling our products…it’s about sparking interest among the youth to embrace and support local arts and crafts, ensuring our culture and creativity thrive for future generations,” Barbadillo stated.

This year’s trade fair emphasizes sustainability and innovation, aligning with global trends and consumer preferences.

Products made from eco-friendly materials and practices are prominently featured, showcasing La Union’s commitment to sustainable development.

With more than a decade of success, the ‘Pamaskong Handog’ trade fair has become a symbol of La Union’s resilience and resourcefulness.

It highlights the importance of community collaboration in achieving inclusive growth and sustainable development.
