DTI urges public to support local MSMEs this Holiday Season

ODIONGAN, Romblon (PIA) — The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) is calling on the public to support micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) by purchasing locally-made products as gifts this Christmas season.

During the Kapihan sa PIA Romblon on November 22, DTI-Romblon Provincial Director Orville Mallorca emphasized the importance of buying local products to help MSMEs recover from economic challenges.

He highlighted that choosing local goods positively impacts workers’ livelihoods and sustains the flow of money within the province’s economy.

“By supporting local products, we help sustain the livelihoods of our fellow citizens, maintain jobs for suppliers, and keep money circulating within the province’s economy,” Mallorca explained.

He encouraged purchasing unique Romblon-made items, such as marble crafts from the town of Romblon and handcrafted goods from various parts of the province, pointing out that such purchases not only support MSMEs but also promote the culture and traditions of the people of Romblon.

For those interested in buying locally, the OTOP (One Town, One Product) Center in Odiongan and the Marble Shopping Center in Romblon offer a variety of locally crafted items.

In addition to promoting local products, Mallorca mentioned that municipalities like Odiongan and Romblon have passed a “Go Local Ordinance,” which mandates the use of local goods as official tokens during government activities and for visiting officials.

This advocacy is part of DTI’s Go Local Program, which aims to encourage Filipinos to recognize and patronize high-quality Filipino-made products. (PJF/PIA MIMAROPA-Romblon)
