DTI Zambales strengthens consumer protection, welfare

IBA, Zambales (PIA) — The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) strengthened consumer protection and welfare through the establishment of Consumer Welfare Desks (CWDs) in Zambales.

A total of 35 CWDs were established in the province from 2022 to present, 28 of which are in different business establishments while seven are in public markets.

DTI Provincial Director Enrique Tacbad said the CWDs aim to provide speedy resolution of consumer complaints and enhance coordination and cooperation among the consumers, the private sector, and the government in promoting consumer welfare.

“CWDs encourage self-policing mechanisms and responsible entrepreneurship, provide easier access to government programs, new laws, and policies, and will serve as a multiplier for the government in providing services,” he explained.

Consumers may file complaints against a business establishment at CWDs.

These include, but are not limited to, defective products or services, price discrepancies, product quality and safety, labeling and packaging, and violation of sales promotions mechanics. (CLJD/RGP, PIA Region 3-Zambales)
