DTI’s web-based platform expedites resolution of consumer complaints

CALAMBA CITY, Laguna (PIA) — The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) continues to strengthen its Online Dispute Resolution System (ODRS), a web-based platform designed to expedite the resolution of consumer complaints.

DTI Regional Director Marissa Argente said that the system is a significant step in ensuring faster and more efficient consumer protection in the region.

“Right now, we encourage you to go online if you have a complaint or problem. We have an online dispute resolution system so that you can talk to our mediation officer there, because our job is to mediate under an online system using an alternative dispute resolution order,” the director said.

The ODRS aims to provide a more accessible and efficient way for consumers to file complaints against businesses regarding defective products, misleading advertisements, pricing issues, and other violations of consumer rights.

According to DTI, the ORDS enables consumers to file complaints online without visiting DTI offices, upload supporting documents such as receipts and proof of purchase, track the status of their complaints in real-time, and participate in virtual mediation sessions with business.

Consumers can access the digital system through the DTI’s official website. The Trade department’s Consumer Protection Division will then review each case and facilitate an online mediation process between the complainant and the business involved.

Argente added that the system aligns with the government’s digitization efforts, making consumer dispute resolution more accessible, transparent, and convenient for the Calabarzon region.

“With the increasing number of online transactions, it is crucial that we provide consumers with a digital platform where they can easily file complaints and seek redress without the hassle of physically visiting our offices,” Argente added.

As the system rolls out, DTI encourages consumers to take advantage of the platform and report any unfair business practices. The agency also reassured the public that it will continue to improve the system to make it more user-friendly and efficient.

With the growing number of online transactions in the country, consumer complaints have also increased. DTI’s ODRS is expected to enhance public trust in e-commerce and ensure that businesses comply with fair trade regulations. (AM,CH/PIA-4A)
