SAN POLICARPO, Eastern Samar (PIA) — A total of 186 rice farmers of San Policarpo in Eastern Samar recently received sacks of fertilizer from the Department of Agriculture (DA) through the town’s local government unit.
Each of the farmers received varying amounts of fertilizer aid depending on the size of their cultivated area.
Simplicio Delmonte, a farmer, said he is thankful for the fertilizer support as it will be a great help for his small piece of riceland.
“Dako na in nga bulig ha akon haligutay nga kahagnaan kay medyo mahal it fertilizer,” Simplicio added. (This is already a big help for my small rice field as fertilizer is expensive.)
Simplicio also shared that he previously received rice seeds from DA.
Implemented under the Department of Agriculture’s Rice Program, this initiative aims to support farmers registered in the Registry System for Basic Sectors in Agriculture (RSBSA).
Municipal Councilor Cayetano Baldoza said the local government unit (LGU) is committed to strengthening the agricultural sector which serves as the backbone of the country’s local economy.
“This program underscores the LGU’s dedication to enhancing the well-being of our farmers. It is a shared responsibility to ensure they receive adequate support to boost productivity and sustain their livelihoods,” Baldoza added.
Cirilo Quinsayas, representing Mayor Menlo Nicart, extended his gratitude to the Department of Agriculture for the continued support of the farmers in the municipality.
The fertilizer aid aims to mitigate the potential impacts of fertilizer under-application in palay production while sustaining the country’s rice supply and sufficiency, enabling farmers to plant on time and maximize their harvest potential.
It aligns with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s directive earlier this year, instructing the DA to ensure the swift delivery of all forms of support to farmers and prevent any gaps during the planting season. (VTG/PIA Eastern Samar)
