Eastern Samar reaffirms commitment to uphold children’s safety, rights

BORONGAN CITY (PIA) – The provincial government of Eastern Samar, in partnership with the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office, has reaffirmed its commitment to promote children’s rights and safety as it concluded the celebration of the 32nd National Children’s Month on Tuesday, November 26, at the Provincial Capitol gym in Borongan City.

This year’s celebration, themed “Break the Prevalence, End the Violence: Protecting Children, Creating a Safe Philippines,” gathered high school students from various municipalities across the province to raise awareness about children’s rights, and child protection issues. It also emphasizes on the importance of safeguarding children from violence, abuse, neglect, and exploitation.

In Gov. Ben Evardone’s provincial state of the children address read by Vice Governor Maricar Sison-Goteesan, the governor emphasized the provincial government’s commitment to promote the rights and welfare of every child, and underscored the importance of fostering a nurturing environment where children can thrive and reach their full potential.

“We highlight the importance of creating a safe environment for children to grow, learn, and develop by providing them with protection from physical and emotional abuse, exploitation in the form of child labor or trafficking, and neglect by society,” Evardone stated.

“Every child regardless of background, should be loved, cared for, and respected,” the governor added.

The governor also shared the steps taken by the provincial government to provide a safe space for children such as improvement of healthcare accessibility, providing necessary interventions for children with special cases, among other programs that ensure children’s welfare.

The celebration was attended by key stakeholders, including representatives from the Division Federation of Supreme Secondary Learner Government of Eastern Samar, the Provincial Council for the Protection of Children (PCPC) chaired by Board Member Anabelle Capito, the Department of Education, the Department of the Interior and Local Government, the Philippine National Police, Save the Children Philippines, the Council for the Welfare of Children, and COPE Inc.
