PALO, LEYTE-In support of the President’s directive to implement the 2024 National Crime Prevention Program (NCPP), government agencies in Eastern Visayas, led by the National Police Commission (NAPOLCOM), presented the 2024 Regional Crime Prevention Plan during the Crime Prevention Summit held on August 7, 2024, at the PNP VIII Regional Command, here.
NAPOLCOM Regional Director Benjamin Florentino stated that the plan outlines the specific initiatives and collaborative efforts of various government agencies to ensure public safety and reduce crime rates across the region.
The said plan was formulated through a series of focus groups discussions among concerned government agencies such as the Philippine National Police (PNP), Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA), Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP), Department of Justice-Parole and Probation Administration (DOJ-PPA), Philippine Ports Authority (PPA), Regional Prosecutions Office, and National Intelligence Coordinating Agency (NICA).
Florentino emphasized that this is the first time a president has issued a circular directing all government agencies and instrumentalities, as well as local government units (LGUs), to support and cooperate in the implementation of the NCPP.
The NCPP aims to provide “cross-cutting strategies to further foster safe communities, protect the rights of Filipinos, and reduce the prevalence of criminal activities in the country,” aligning with the Philippine Development Plan 2023-2028.
Malacañang has designated the NAPOLCOM as the lead agency in the implementation of the NCPP.
Meanwhile, a pledge of commitment was made by all participating agencies during the summit.
For its part, the Philippine Information Agency (PIA) has committed to supporting the 2024 Regional Crime Development Plan and the NCPP by closely collaborating with NAPOLCOM and partner agencies to raise public awareness about crime prevention strategies and foster active community participation.
PIA will utilize its extensive network and communication channels to strengthen the program’s outreach efforts, support crime prevention measures, and contribute to creating a safer and more secure environment for all people in the Eastern Visayas region. (RLA/PIA-8)
